Let me introduce myself, I’m Patrick Joel, and I’m one of the four Sea Champions Volunteer Coordinators for the Marine Conservation Society. The funds raised from the 5p carrier bag charge in M&S foodhalls is funding our Sea Champions initiative as part of the M&S Forever Fish Campaign, it’s thanks to you that we can work together to protect our seas, shores and wildlife through this initiative.

My fellow coordinators and I visited M&S stores across the country last week to tell you more about Sea Champions and to get people like you signed up for MCS/M&S’ first Big Beach Clean-up!
I was in nine stores over three days – from Weston super Mare to Taunton, Bath to Bristol and on day three, Weymouth to Yeovil, engaging people along the way who have a love of the sea and a desire to take action to preserve it!
From M&S’ friendly employees to M&S customers, there was a great amount of enthusiasm to get involved, with lots of people signing up to what looks to be a fantastic start to the first Big Beach Clean-up! Thousands of people will be rolling up their sleeves to clean 50 beaches across the country and it’s fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and pride for our British beaches.
The Big Beach Clean-up will take place between Friday 11th May and Sunday 13th May with the aim to stop common items such as fishing nets, ropes and bottles tops polluting our beaches and seas.
If we didn’t get to talk to you in store and you want to get involved please register in advance at www.mcsuk.org/foreverfish.
M&S will even give you a £5 M&S voucher* and you’ll get some free M&S snacks on the day of the clean!
I look forward to seeing you at the Big Beach Clean-up! If you’re planning to come along, let me know what beach you’ll be helping out at by leaving a comment below…
* £5 off a £25 spend on food and drink at any M&S store (excluding BP stores and valid for one month). Terms apply. See voucher for details. You must pre-register online with the Marine Conservations Society to be eligible to receive the voucher
