Shwop ‘til you drop with M&S and Oxfam

If you’re anything like most people, your wardrobe is probably full of hidden gems – clothes you don’t want, clothes that don’t fit, clothes you’ve simply gone off… But there’s no reason for clothes to become clutter – especially not now we’ve teamed up with M&S to launch shwopping.

No, it’s not a typo – shwopping is a new way to give your old clothes a second chance at life, fight poverty and reduce landfill. I’m really excited about this and I hope you will be too – particularly since it’s now so much more convenient for M&S shoppers to have a clear-out and donate to Oxfam.

There are actually two ways for you to shwop. The big news is that you can now donate your unwanted clothes to Oxfam at M&S. Just bring an unwanted item of clothing with you next time you pop in to buy something new. Of course, even if you’re not looking for anything new, you can still donate your unwanted clothes to Oxfam at M&S if it’s more convenient than popping into one of our shops.

The other way to shwop is by donating your unwanted M&S clothes to Oxfam shops. If you do, our shop volunteers will give you an M&S voucher for £5 off a £35 spend on clothing, home and beauty products in M&S stores and online.

In case you don’t already know, we never waste a stitch of the clothes you donate to us – they are always resold, reused or recycled. That’s why, through our partnership with M&S, we’ve already been able to raise £8 million to lift people out of poverty around the world. And we’ve also massively reduced the number of clothes that end up in landfill.

Just imagine what we could do if we could shwop as many items as M&S sells every year. We’re hoping that shwopping will raise an extra £2 million over the next 12 months alone. To give you an idea of just how amazing this is – it’s enough to fund Oxfam’s work in Zambia for a whole year!
