How to leave a comment

To leave a comment you need to be logged in. Why? We find that this cuts down on unwanted spam from robots and also ensures that our community can have open discussions with ‘real’ people. This also cuts down on unwanted behaviour such as ‘trolling’ anonymous users do not feel they are held accountable for their views. Once logged in however, you can change your screen name to the nickname of your choice and customise your profile to include as much (or as little) detail about yourself as you feel comfortable sharing in public by adding profile information and a picture (of yourself, or some icon such as a flower, heart etc). You can do this by clicking on your name when it appears above the login as show in the picture below.

You will then be taken to a page that looks like this:

You can see that you can change your first and last name and also create a nickname (such as Daisy’ mum) and then choose which name to display publicly. Further down you can add personal information and an image. But remember – everyone can see this, so only put information up that you are comfortable and remember to stay safe online by not giving any details which could lead to anyone contacting you directly. M&S uses your login details to ensure that if we need to contact you about a competition or to follow up on an issue that we can do so easily.  We do not share these details with third parties and you will see we have put our full privacy policy up for you to review how we keep your details safe. You can them here: http://social.marksandspencer.com/terms-and-conditions/

If you wish to comment you will see that we have guidelines for what we will publish – these are our standard user generated content guidelines to ensure that comments posted are relevant and contribute to the harmonious nature of our community, you can see these here: http://social.marksandspencer.com/terms-and-conditions/

Your comment will not immediately appear on the site, instead you will see the following message:

Your comment will normally be published within 72 hours if it conforms to the guidelines for submissions. The above example would not be published as this is considered spam. We will also not publish customer service complaints – but we do ensure that these are forwarded to our service team. If you do have a complaint it is far quicker to contact our service team directly via the help pages on our website, which you can reach here: http://help.marksandspencer.com/faqs/

Once your post has been accepted you will see it displayed in full under the post. If other readers wish they can rate or report your comment and they can also respond to it, as can the author of the blog itself. In this way we generate great conversations about topics we love – so come join the conversation today!
