About SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS:

In 1895, Daniel Swarovski, a Bohemian inventor and visionary, moved to the village of Wattens, Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for cutting and polishing crystal jewellery stones. It was a revolutionary machine that allowed crystals to be cut more precisely than with the manual methods of the time. His guiding principle is still followed by the company today: ‘To constantly improve what is good.’

Over the years, Swarovski has had an important partnership with the world’s great fashion houses – both as a creative partner and a supplier. Elsa Schiaparelli came to Wattens in the 1930s to experience as much as possible about the production of cut crystal and its potential for the creation of jewellery. Coco Chanel was always intrigued with crystal as a creative medium and in the use of costume jewellery for decorative purposes. In the 1950s Christian Dior and Swarovski collaborated to produce Aurora Borealis crystal. Luminaries of the modern runway like Vivienne Westwood and Karl Lagerfeld, and many others, still come to Wattens to experience Swarovski’s inspiration to realize their crystalline fantasies.

Today, the company, still family-owned and run by 5th generation family members, has a global reach with some 26,100 employees and a presence in over 120 countries. Swarovski has globalized crystal making it available for all cultures and people.

How they’re made…

Swarovski use only the purest material and the highest quality craftsmanship which has made them the world leader in precision-cut crystal, genuine gemstones and created stones. From a scientific aspect, crystal has the molecular structure of a frozen liquid. It is the most pure, clearest and brilliant form of glass and has unique properties. The exact formula for the manufacturing of SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS, and cutting process, is not only very special but also a well–kept secret.
