Pastel chinos

1. Pastel chinos
A nod to summer’s love of sorbet shades, a pair of pastel chinos or jeans makes a chic getaway outfit – and is a fabulous base for an on-trend look on cooler evenings. Shop Cotton Rich Turn Up Hem Slim Leg Chinos

2. Oversized white shirt
Great for the plane with your chinos, an oversized white shirt can double as a cool beachwear cover-up – simply roll up the sleeves and cinch with a skinny belt in a punchy colour. Shop Twiggy for M&S Woman Pure Linen Oversize Shirt

White shirt and tote bag

3. Leather tote
A large leather tote in buttermilk or tan will hold all your essentials for the beach, and also look smart for sightseeing around town – plus it’ll get plenty of use back home through summer and beyond. Shop Autograph Leather Double Handle Shopper Bag

4. Jersey maxi dress
Whether it’s on the beach thrown over your swimwear with flip-flops, or after dark with chic wedges and statement gold jewellery, a jersey maxi dress is your ultimate holiday multi-tasker. Shop Per Una V-Neck Abstract Print Maxi Dress

Jersey maxi dress and printed shorts

5. Printed shorts
Pack a pair of breezy shorts and team with a simple yet elegant white tee – equally perfect for sipping cocktails in a bar (just add strappy heeled sandals) or exploring ancient ruins (swap for comfy gladiators). Shop Indigo Collection Aztec Print Skort

Looking through your range of summer dresses, it’s very hard to find any that are not either knee length or maxi dresses. It would be nice to fine a few mid-calf length dresses but they seem to be missing this year.
