Neon fashion: How to wear the trend

I’m Charlotte Whitelock and, as I work in the buying team for Limited Collection here at M&S, I get to see the latest looks ahead of them hitting our stores. One hot trend that’s coming through now is for neon colours.

When we think of neon fashion we might think of those embarrassing fashion choices of the ‘80s and ‘90s, punks and rebellion. For 2012 however, neon is an exciting choice for the well-dressed woman. It’s not dizzy, or overly flamboyant and comes in more shades than just yellow. It’s very ‘now’, and much easier to wear than you might think, so here are some outfit ideas using neon pink…

Neon trousers outfit

Neon trousers: Now the warmer weather is fast approaching, neon trousers are a perfect summer find for those who don’t want to get their legs out just yet. Team with a simple black top and heels, and finish with a tailored black jacket for a sophisticated evening look. Or, for daytime, team with oversized knits – perfect for the transition from spring to summer.

Neon pink shorts

Above: Mesh Striped Top, Denim Shorts, Stitched Rope Bracelet and Sports Shopper Bag.

Neon shorts: For those who feel a little more daring, neon shorts are fun and one piece that’s getting us excited for the summer and festival season. Match with clean whites or (if you really love colour) with pastel shades, yellow or vibrant blues, finished with statement accessories.

Neon jacket outfit

Above: Bull Dog Top, Skinny Jeans, Cropped Denim Jacket and High Heel Espadrilles.

Neon jacket: This cropped jacket neatly nips you in at the waist to create a flattering silhouette. Team with your favourite skinny denim jeans and sandals for a casual-but-cool weekend look.

Neon adds a burst of colour to a neutral outfit. This fresh and fun style can be incorporated into anyone’s wardrobe, whether it’s a cute pair of hot pants or a formal pair of trousers. So be bright, be bold, be daring and give it a try.

I’m not normally much of a wearer of pink but I must admit I do rather like the neon shorts… The blue mesh top is lovely too.
