How to wear short shorts

The sun may be playing hard to get this summer, but don’t let that put you off wearing this season’s fab shorts looks. There isn’t an age limit on shorts, it’s about the styling. And yes, you can wear shorts and keep them tasteful.

In Limited Collection it’s the shorter shorts that have caught my eye. They can be dressed up or down, for relaxed or smarter looks. Though, if you’re like me, your legs have been hibernating in your jeans and tights for so many months now they’ve probably forgotten what the sun looks and feels like. Well worry not, M&S also have the beauty solutions to help prepare those pins!

How to wear shorts

Coloured Shorts

Be daring and add a splash of colour to the often-gloomy British weather. I’ve opted for a fun take on a smart-casual look with yellow shorts. My black blazer is a wardrobe staple, and, more often than not, it completes my outfit. By combining it with high-waist colourful shorts, my look is summery but still smart enough for work. Alternatively, swap the blazer for a  light denim jacket for a casual edge. Shop Limited Collection Cotton Rich Zip Shorts.

Choosing the right cut is important. Here a high-waisted shape helps to create a more flattering silhouette, ideal when opting for a bright look. Remember, when choosing a top for this look, let your colour-popping shorts do the talking. Then for your legs don’t be afraid to team with tights. This is a great solution when your legs aren’t ready to be exposed!

Tailored shorts

Invest! Shorts do not need to be restricted to summer, and tailored and linen shorts are great for for year round style.  For a simple daytime look, wear tailored shorts teamed with black tights and Chelsea boots or ankle socks and brogues. To create a dressed-up, femininine outfit, opt for a longer short, finishing at mid thigh, with a classic court shoe and pretty blouse. Shop Limited Collection Pure Cotton Pleated Chino Shorts.

Classic denim shorts

Who can forget this timeless summer item! Whether they’re vintage, acid-wash, ripped or indigo, you can’t deny that denim shorts are a summer classic. The Limited Collection denim shorts are no exception, giving you an ideal look from beach to festival and everything in-between!  I have teamed this with a colourful statement print tee and aviators for an easy to wear (and comfy) look.

Shop all tanning and sun protection or view all beauty ranges online.

Don’t stop with your legs though; brighten up those toes with a colourful nail polish. Limited Collection have created a quick-dry nail polish, ideal for us busy women, to give you an instant splash of colour! Finished with flip-flops for that relaxed day look or wedge heels for an extra lift to cheat longer looking legs. Shop Limited Collection Quick Dry Nail Polish.
