Fancy getting access to Britain’s most exclusive January sale? Marks & Spencer and Oxfam are opening a two-day pop-up charity ‘shwop shop’ in the Marble Arch M&S store. All you need to do to access this sale of a century is bring along an unwanted item of clothing to shwop and you’re in!
Shwoppers will be able to snap up designer bargains donated by Britain’s style icons including Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe, Jo Wood and Zandra Rhodes – as well as an edit of the best items shwopped at M&S from the public since the scheme started last year. There will also be a chance for shoppers to own a piece of fashion history as M&S is offering a unique collection of coveted vintage items charting the story of M&S from the launch of its first-ever St. Michael collection in 1928 to the present day.
Running on the 24th and 25th January at the flagship M&S Marble Arch store, the celebrity shop will be staffed by a host of famous faces including Shwopping guru Joanna Lumley, who said:
“By opening your hearts, minds and your wardrobe and going shwopping, you can not only bag an outfit worn on the red carpet or to a glitzy awards evening, but help the environment too. Fashion with a conscience, it is perfect isn’t it? By shwopping all we want you to do is give your unwanted items stuffed in the back of your wardrobe a future. Simply bring an old item back every time you buy a new outfit, shwop and shop! Come to the Shwop Shop, shwop and shop and leave with a smile – the world will then feel a better place!”
All money raised by the shop will be used to support Oxfam’s projects around the world working to alleviate poverty.
Dozens of famous faces including model and artist Tali Lennox, TV presenter Caroline Flack, model Erin O’Connor, Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt, singer Ellie Goulding, Radio 1 star Gemma Cairney and Style Bubble blogger Susie Lau have already donated items ranging from evening dresses and red-carpet frocks to designer denims. Every celeb item in the pop up store has an A-list history behind them, including Flack’s X Factor dress and Jo Wood’s vintage Susan Small dress bought while on tour in America.

Throughout the two days a tweeter in residence will be capturing the stories behind the clothes and broadcasting them via @shwopping so make sure you’re following for the latest updates.
